After the abolition of slave trade, some of the freed Africans returned to Nigeria, Lafiaji is one of the area in which they settled. They brought hope, wealth and culture, among these culture is Brazilians street carnival which they used to entertain themselves in the plantation. Till today, the descendants celebrate this Fanty carnival every 25th of December and 1st of January to remember their freedom.
